In June 2012, the company disclosed a data breach of their customers' information using several communication channels including social media, emailing customers directly as well as posting a statement to the company's website. Their statement explained that they had received an email informing them that a text file containing cryptographic strings for passwords (known as “hashes”) connected to them had been posted to a password cracking site.
In August 2016, the full extent of the hack was disclosed after it was confirmed that 43.5 million customers information had been breached.
