In April 2017, the banking company disclosed that their customers had been impacted by a data breach after one of the bank's third party service providers uploaded a database to cloud storage with an error in the configuration file which meant the database was publicly viewable and searchable.
A security researcher discovered the unencrypted consumer information including names, addresses and social security numbers on publicly accessible servers and notified the bank who ensured action was taken to secure the data.
